Comments please on Flow Requirements - Message from Tunze
Sent a message to Tunze on flow requirements for Tank 60L 18W 24H, which is 112 Gallons with SPS & Clams, here is the reply:
"The electronic versions would be preferred as you cannot control the 6080 or run it on a wavemaker so the flow would be static. I would recommend 1 6100 and a single controller or better 2 6000 and a multicontroller." I beleive the 6100 is rated around 1900 gph, not sure about the 6000, I myself was thinking 1 6080 stream, with a powerhead at the opposite end to break up the flow, then again, the less pumps in the tank the better. Any thoughts? |
Their ideas make sense Wayne. The one problem I had with their thinking is the Cost. The controlled ones are double the price of the non controlled ones.
I use 2 6080 in my tank. Maybe this sep I will buy one of the contolled ones and keep the other as backup |
Wayne, the 6100 is about 3200gph, and pulses. It runs about $500. I have one of those in my 155g and felt I needed to add a 6080 (2100gph) as well. I may add a second 6080 in the future. Other currents come from a 1" seaswirl and a couple of powerheads. More is better, me thinks.

Thanks guys, Brad your right, not that I doubted it , just checked J&L site, 6100 - no controller rated at 3170 is $439 - I guess with controller as you said $500.
The 6000 rated at 1850 with controller is $339 |

I think the multicontroller output looks pretty slick, alternating left-and-right currents, but for a mere $1000 (OUCH) I think I'll be saving up for a little while.
