Hydrophornia question
 

I am unsure weather I will keep this colony or not but if I do...

I understand they are very aggressive. Does this include toward lps. And what distance is safe for other colonies of Sps and lps.

You must mean Hydnophora? Within a few hours mine will digest up to 2" of almost anything that comes within 1/2" of it. As long as you keep tiny frags away from them you'll be fine.

Did you mean Hynophora? If you did, they will literally kill ANYTHING that it's tentacles will touch. Keep well away from anything that you don't want killed.

I'd love for my little frag to take care of my Yellow Polyps, but I've got other corals too near them to target kill them.

There are even species of Hydnophora that send out a mucous that will kill and eat anything it touches, could be anywhere from inches to a foot.

Haha. Yeah that's the name. I didn't know how bad they were when it was Givin to me. But I think I'll put it buy some gsp for a week then be rid of it. Lol

At some point in time your new favorite $50 frag will fall into your hydnophora. Gurranteed.

I had a beautiful gorniopora that rolled at the base of mine and it was digested fully in the morning.

On the other end, I have an alveopora that is right beside it and it is touching it all day long ( but never remain more than a few seconds in contact) and it is not affected. This has been going one for a few months and I see no sign of war or that the hydno is releasing the filaments.

I think in order for the war to take place the coral must touch and remain in contact with the hydnophora.

I also have a gorgonian that is touching the hydno the same way, never more than a few seconds at the time and no harm done. I think it's the permanent contact that is dangerous, especially during the night time.

Ok. It is 6 inches from anything else. I really do like the look and color. So I may try and see. It's at top of tank so I'm not worried about others falling on it. The closest would be a brain that's under it.

6" is plenty enough, even 2" is fine. As lons as a coral does not touch it for a long period of time it will be fine.

I even have the remain of one that I detached from a rock to sell it and it is only encrusted for now but it is growing in between my zoanthids and digitata and does not seem to affect them.

Mine is a very nice light fluorescent green, very striking in color.
