Almost there, but...

I'm trying to set up the 90 gallon, I've got all the equipment, but I was wondering about my return pump. J & L recommended the mag 7 because I have about 4 feet of head and a 3/4" to 1/2" return into the tank. Will the mag 7 work?
Also, for the discharge of water into the tank what should I use? I drilled holes into 1/2" pvc pipe for a spray bar that runs about 2 feet at the top of the tank. Is this good or not good?
Any help would be hella great.
Thanks Peoples

What size is your drain or overflow?

fishdaddy3 02-27-2004 04:04 PM

the drain is 3/4" and the overflow is 9" wide with 1/16" slits running the length of it.

3/4" is on th esmall side, so the MAG 7 might be the max you can use for a return. I use a MAG 7 to return to my frag tank (40g) and I feel it isn't anywhere near enough. Ideally I would want a MAG 12 on a 90g, but the 3/4" output won't handle it. As long as you provide enough current inside the tank by other means, you should be fine.

how about the spray bar in the tank. Is that gonna work.

the spray bar can work, but be prepared to clean it so it doesnt get clogged.

I have a mag7 on my return, 3/4 out, 1/2" return. It works just fine. I turn down the overflow so it doesn't gurgle.

similar set up

I have a very similar set up. I use a mag 12 and have put in ball valves on both lines so i can adjust the flow down just a little bit. It took a very little bit of tuning at first but works great. As for the spray bar i put a bunch of "t"'s along the pipe and then caps on the t's with different sized holes and configurations to suit the needed flows in different areas of the tank. Go for it!
