Building Code question (HVAC)

Trying to figure the best way to run the exhaust line (stale air) from the main floor ceiling back to the HRV in the basement and the only easy route in to use the HWT vent chase.

Wondering if okay to use the chase for the HRV duct. The duct be metal within the chase and this line vents to the outside of the house when the HRV is running.

As long as you have minium clearances from the B-Vent (usually 1") you should be fine. The ends of the ducts will have to be seperated though.

Thanks, but can you clarify about the ends being separated though? Mean the joints off the B-Vent staggered from those of the HRV line?

The exhaust ends must seperated so there is no back drafting of gases.

The only code requirement is 1" clearance, if you run metal pipe for your hrv, you can touch it.

This is great. The other option would have been to open the walls and wasn't looking forward to doing drywall.

Still can't believe I was quoted 4000 bucks for a HRV installed.

and how much was the unit without the install?
