Flashlight Fish
This is a deep water ocean fish that displays a light to aid in it's search for food.
The bio-luminescent bacteria acts as a lure for food and mates. Very cool. The photograph shows the fish lighting up. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7156/6...007b75f9_o.jpg _MG_0136 by in his image, on Flickr |
Lets try this again from scratch

What's with the white spot? Looks like something made from the eraser tool in paint...

The white spot really does look fake, but looked it up and its legit. Cool fish!

I like the display they have for these guys at the vancouver aquarium. Had I the time and money for another tank, it'd be fun to do a species tank for these guys.

The fish was one of three or four that a lfs brought in. Very reclusive and you need a species tank to house them. Like pineapple fish and cardinal fish. They prefer/need darker tanks.
The light is bioluminescence that they can turn on and off. Very cool. They use it to attract mates and food. Give me a sec I'm posting from my phone I'll post a link on them. |
