I have cichlids, and have encountered this twice in the last few years. one didnt make it, the other did. Pop eye, or cloudy eye is usually fungal or bacterial in my experience, from a cut or small opening in the fishes eye lense. If your water hasn't been cleaned or it happens near the time when you change your water odds are there is some bacteria or waste, that helped get an infection started in there, melafix is a great product, but $$ I would recommend putting him in a smaller QT tank for a few weeks, I treated my one cichlid with 3 bottles, before it cleared up. Sometimes it take a while, try also soaking his food in it for at least 15 minutes to ensure ingestion. as for cleaning the sinks, I just use comet. lol and scolding hot water!

I've used Furan 2 in the past with good results.

Make sure to keep your tank extra clean to speed up healing and to prevent reinfection.

I had this happen a few months ago to my Cinnamon Clown. It bulged out really big, and looked really bad. But since she was still eating and no other sign of disease, just left it. Took a few weeks, but gradually cleared up on its own (no medication), and now can't tell there was ever anything wrong.

My guess is maybe she hurt herself when protecting her territory. She is always hitting/biting things, like my glass cleaner or even my hand. Maybe she got a spine in the eye from my Foxface, or an urchin.

In any case, she is perfectly fine now, and never lost her belligerent ways.
