Starfish Accident
Last week I was I put on a fluval filter with some Chemipure and floss to run on my tank for a day or two and to also suck up some of those bloody flatworms! Well I ran it for two days and when I went to clean it to my horror I found my starfish inside with one leg missing  . How it got sucked up through a 1/2" hole still amazes me(anouther lesson learned the hard way). Anyway I put them both back into the tank and they both seem to be doing ok. The starfish's wound seems to have healed over and the leg is moving around.
What do you think the legs chances are? Here are a couple of pictures: http://www.canreef.com/photopost/dat...0-med.JPG?4488 http://www.canreef.com/photopost/dat...1-med.jpg?6578 Dave |
leg looks ok, looks like you have 2 starfish if you ask me...

"What are his chances...?" I'd figure about one in five,
Sorry, couldn't resist that one. |

the leg would not turn into another sea star because it needs a piece of the central disc to turn into another sea star...btw, my brittle star did that too...It lost all five legs every few days and was left with nothing but the central disc...

silly marine biologists trying to save some corals on a reeceding reef went diving and caught all the predatory starfish they could, brought them on the boat and cut them all into many little pieces and threw them overboard to feed the fishies, when returning for starfish counting they couldnt figure how the starfish population skyrocketed when they caught almost all of them and "killed" them....lol some times the smartest people are so dumb.... |
