Testing for Iodine

Im alittle confused when it comes to testing for this substance. Im aware Iodine can appear in many forms (from what ive read), but the two im testing for is Iodide and Iodate. Iodide came out to around 0.03ppm however Iodate was undetectable. Can anyone give an easy explanation what the relationship between the two are? Im assuming ideally youd want a 0.03ppm reading for both but i dont want to keep dosing and up the Iodide concentration beyond 0.03. I realize realistically I dont even need to be dosing or testing for this but im curious and find it interesting playing around with it. Thanks!

I believe Randy has said that hobby test kits for iodine and it's forms are unreliable.
