Can someone tell me if in Randy's article he is refering to imperial or us gallons?

Just a guess but since he's based in the US, it's probably safe to assume US gals. The US is pretty set on it's own system of measurement, remember they toyed with going metric briefly but quickly decided to keep their version of the Imperial system.

That is kind of what I was thinking but then he starts using Litres and mg/L and such.
