ID Ideas

There is a coral at the LFS that I'm curious about, the fellow says it came in with out being ordered and he's just not certain what it is. It looks alot like Shao's Fungia but instead of a large mouth it has many tiny mouths, other than that it looks like the fungia, green/brown/gray with those little triangular shaped things that go up (assuming they are a polyp of sorts).

Anyone have any idea what I'm looking at?

I am having the doggonest time trying to picture in my imagination what you describe. Sorry, not a clue from me. Can you sneak a picture of it?

excellent description

Personally I have no idea what you are talking about. You don't have any reference books or anything to find something similar? I'll have a look at mine after work and see if there is anything that fits that description.

..."go up"

It looks very similar to this except it's got what appear to be many tiny mouths all around it rather than a large mouth at the center.

Sorry for the description... but.. it's kinda green/brown/gray with those triangular shaped things that go up... or.. towards the light.

long tentacle plate coral?

BCOrchidGuy 01-13-2004 09:23 PM

It doesnt look like the long at all, when I searched for short tentacle though it looks similar to some of them but they all seem to have a large central mouth. This one doesn't have that large central mouth it has a bunch of small mouths spread out all over it.

Polyphyllia Slipper Coral. That's my guess. It's either that or a Frog fish :microwav:

This may or may not help, but you could always try and ID this here

Taz thanks that really narrowed the search. I'm going to buy it and then get some pictures I think.
