Hello,

We just did a bunch of reno's to our place and I'm thinking a nice reef scene picture in the livingroom would look nice. Does any one know were I could go and get quotes for a blown up picture? My thoughts are for a picture of at least 36X24.Then I'd like to frame it and hang on one of the livingroom walls.

Do you want a paining or a photograph. If a photo do you have the negative. If so I would suggest ABC Photo on Broadway & Fir in Vancouver. But most Photo places will be able to send it away to be printed that size

Jakets, It'll be a photograph. My camera is 4mp. The largest size ends up being 2272X1704. I'm also curiuos what that would translate into inches on a print with out any enlarging done to it.

costco does large poster sized blowups.

Most digital Mini lab printers use Lasers that write between 300 to 310 DPI. That doesn't sound like much but I've simplified it a bit.
So you take 2272 / 300 = 7.57
Then 1704 / 300 = 5
So you can make a 5X7 from that file size.
Now thats only if you don't want the lab to perform any interpolation. But to take that file size and make it 36x24 the results would be very poor. Even with a negative (135) it's hard to get a 36X24 enlargement to look good.

yup but for wall art and pics depending on how far away you look at it from you can get away with 250 DPI. you could make a nice looking 8X10 from your camera Jamie. I did a 11 x 14 pic off my camera and I was very impressed with the output. also for poster making there is another process that makes it so when they are that big it looks good from say 10 foot away and even deicent from 5 foot but not from 1 foot away.

Jakets, I'm a little confused as I've seen enlargements with camera's less the 4mp that certainly were framing quality larger then a 5X7. The way I understood it, this camera could take poster size pictures with descent/good quality. Am I missing something? It's new too me so forgive my ignorance.

Oh and Steve, I think you were answering my question before I even typed it. Which is pretty impressive as you even got it posted before me :razz:

Could someone tell me why then when I upload a picture onto my PC which has a screen size of 12.75X 9.5 the full res picture goes off the screen which would make it much larger then the suggested 5X7.

I guess all ideas sound good when you have no clue :lol:
