Geiger Counter

I wonder if anyone on here and lives in BC has Geiger Counter, so we can monitor and compare levels before (now) and after this weekend when we get a 1st dose of extremely low radiation?

i know the news tells us it is OK but we all know that we have been lied to before right...

There is something called "Petkau Effect"

For scientists, the Petkau Effect may be illustrated as follows:

A long term exposure of extremely low radiation (i.e., one-ten millionth of a rad) was found to be 100 BILLION times MORE lethal than a short term exposure to exceedingly high level radiation (i.e., 10,000 rads per minute). As it turns out, Petkau discovered that at exceedingly high radiation levels, the abundant free radicals generated in tissues tended to cancel each other out before they could do cellular damage. But at extremely low levels of radiation, these same free radicals - produced in minuscule quantities - remain unchecked. And any steady stream of unchecked free-radicals will efficiently and lethally cleave lipid cellular membranes like a hot knife slicing through butter once they overwhelm and exhaust cellular antioxidant defenses. This dramatically illustrates the non-linear aspects of dose (rads) to lethality. Most scientists specializing in this field are unaware of this fact. And most think strictly in terms of genetic damage, while the above presents its lethal affects upon cell membranes and only secondarily to the genetic core.18

Stop eating banannas and brazil nuts before holding your breath about radiation that might be carried over from Japan.

Never Mind that....hold up one of those pancake gieger counters to a granite counter top.....you will want to switch to Corian after that

well we all are going to die sooner or later some sooner and some later.

Dude, the only thing that will even make it this far is radioactive nitrogen, which is in such small quantities that by the time it gets here it'll be so dilute that the background radiaition levels will be higher. Even in Japan, the radiactive species that were released are so short lived that by the time you say NUCLEAR DISASTER they have broken down into smaller, harmless, non-radiative elements.

I'd advise people to stop smoking before worrying about the nuclear stuff from Japan shortening your life span, you'll live longer.

That sites says they evacuated a six mile radius. A six-mile radius is a safety precaution. I love the "We're all gonna die" infographic. If that actually was the case, everyone in Japan would be dead.

God, I love media!

Banannas!

No really, BED people. Think of this in terms of Bananna equivalents, and the amount of radiation you MIGHT see here (or currently in Tokyo for that matter), is really quite trivial.
