I hear ya, all these moster "designer" tanks always have such brutal fake corals and such. You would think they could put a few extra bucks into something a little more realistic... But then again the people that get these are most likely uber rich and don't know lot about what normal tanks look like. Manufactures build them with "shiney red ball" syndrome....and away they go.

funny thing is that those fake corals cost just as much if not more than normal corals do. Its impossible to do any real maintenance in tank like that so its the only option really. Only problem is that they need to be removed and cleaned regularly so i dunno how the maintenance guy is going to do that :D

these guys usually arent into reefkeeping. just like to have lots of show off things in their house. bet you he has some sweet cars hes never driven over 100mph :D

I would bet with some experimentation, you could find a great little natual biotope that would work perfectly in that system with minimal maintenance...

I don't buy into there being no viable option other than fake.

Wow I'd lay 5000g out a lot differently. Whatever floats his boat but in my opinion...that is FUGLY and useless.

Live coral would be pretty hard to do in that tank as effectively lighting it for growth below the top couple of feet would be impossible. Anything deeper would have to be non-photosynthesis, but then feeding those would be near impossible too.

Neat design, but I agree it would be a maintenance and cleaning nightmare. They most likely pay someone else to look after it.
