Warped wood

Ok, I made my hood, and protected everything.. except the underside of my lid  I didn't think the moisture would affect it.. but I was wrong and now it has warpped in the whole two days I've used it. Do you think I can get it straight again? Just spray some water on it and put something heavy on it?

thanks

Chad did you seal the wood? what kind of lights are you using. Did it warp from drying or did it warp from weight? If you need to you may want to just put a 2x4 into the hood narrow edge against the warp and drive a few 2 inch screws into it (assuming you have the room).

I made the mistake of not sealing the bottom - the top is all stained and protected to a smooth glassy finish.. which is why this erks me so.. I am guessing it warped from the heat of the lights and the humidity of the tank. I have 110w PC.. I could prolly do the 2x4 thing but it will not look as nice as I would like.. I wanted no air flow restriction for when I put my fans in.. I was just hoping I might be able to weight it down and dry it.. with it flattening out.. maybe I will just have to redo the lid.. ugh..

Yeah that's tough, I had the same thing, I did a single coat of primer sealer, everyone said I should have done 3 coats.

Definitely moisture (heat helps with moisture) that caused it. Thats a good method to bending wood. I've seen people bend handrails in plugged eavestrough during the summer. I think it would be easier and faster to replace the piece of wood instead of trying to straighten it unless you are a patient person.

Well this morning the wood looked like a bowl... when I got home it looked more like a little dome.. the middle was up a little bit.. so I took it off and put 3 of my water bottles on top of it to keep it flat and wait for it to dry... I will see whats up tomorrow.. if it is straight I will keep the bottles on for the rest of the week and then seal it..

Thanks for the help

Chad
