auto top off and kalk

I just bought some float switches off of http://www.floatswitches.net/ on ebay for my auto water top off. I plan on having the switch turn on when the water gets to low (duh!!) and have a back up one to switch it of when the water gets to high, just for added saftey. Anyways I have a big 40gal container that I want to have the kalk top off water in... do you think this would add the kalk to quicky? the switches are supposed to be accurate to withn 1/4 inch....

Thanks.

Interesting project!

Sean, what I might consider is putting a dripline irrigation valve, that way the powerhead pushing water into the system can be throttled back, and thus kalk won't be added too quickly.

Let us know how it turns out!

good idea, the other option i was thinking of was just making a less saturated top off... I don't really need it for calcium addition, so i was thinking of this also....

I'd be nervous with 40 gal of kalk hooked up to my system in case the doser malfunctioned.

I'd go a smaller resivoir this would also keep the kalk fresh... but like you were saying maybe a less saturated mix might work.

yah i was thinking about the 40gal could prove to be a disaster if it malfuntions, but i got a package of 4 of the float switches, so i would think it would be VERY unlikely that 3 of them would malfunction (the 3 that would monitor if the water got to high).

Well i have had the kalk top off and i went away for 2 weeks and got the notice from my wife, that the pump was blowing bubbles when i got home. So i check to see thatthe sump was down about 35 gallons in a 55 gallon tub. so i went to the top off container and notice that the kalk hose was blocked off .

So i had to take it off what system i was using was a ro/di line going to a top off into a 26 gal tub and a hose was running from the tub to the sump gravity fed to the tank .so i had 2 top float switches .well i backed fired any way may be there is a way you can do it .i didnt work out for me
