Bubble Magus BM150-Pro Skimmer Review
So I've had this skimmer for a couple months now, and it's about time I get off my butt to write a review. The reason I was looking for a new skimmer was because of a hair algae outbreak in my 135 gallon tank. I've been looking for this specific skimmer locally and was not able to find one in-stock. Before I was running a custom built Becket type skimmer that was very picky and didn't "skim" all the time, I'd constantly have to clean it and play with the settings. I've also started ZEOvit to control the nutrients in the tank and more water changes.
Now on to the Bubble-magnus BM-150PRO review, http://imgur.com/9bm93l.jpg Received from Aqua-Digital July 28th. Came nicely packed and wrapped and there was no problems from shipping, http://i.imgur.com/jiJur.jpg Everything in the box, http://imgur.com/s0o06l.jpg BM-150PRO, http://imgur.com/Z8XL5l.jpg Close up of the collection cup with drain, http://imgur.com/J81rBl.jpg Adjustment dial which works really well and is very sensitive, http://imgur.com/5hzhvl.jpg Will never see it this clean again, http://imgur.com/UFo06l.jpg The Aquabee pump, http://imgur.com/F2xGml.jpg Where the magic happens, http://imgur.com/T49c1l.jpg July 30th - my sump with both skimmers (BM150-Pro has been washed with water, no vinegar bath, my old Becket is just dirty), http://imgur.com/pYJwKl.jpg Bubbling away, very fine small consistent bubbles, http://imgur.com/ZLHfql.jpg July 31st - sitting in about 8" of water, http://imgur.com/NNc4Xl.jpg Aug 11th - after cleaning both skimmers, http://imgur.com/Gm18Hl.jpg Aug 11th - BM150-Pro after cleaning, http://imgur.com/diOjAl.jpg Aug 11th - Custom Becket after cleaning, http://imgur.com/JRE7Ll.jpg Aug 17th - skimmate (BM150-Pro is on the right, much thicker and darker then my custom Beckett), http://imgur.com/gRGs1l.jpg In conclusion after a few months of use my BM150-Pro is still going strong and pulling all sorts of gunk. My hair algae is gone (not sure if it's the water changes or ZEOvit or feeding my fish less). I have it set semi-dry trying to pull the thickest sludge I can. I don't clean it often and still works like a charm, and when I do clean it there is all sorts of gunk in it. It's very quiet and doesn't need much adjustment. There has been a few times where it has overflowed for no reason. I found the BM150-Pro to be a great skimmer and well worth the money. It fits in tight spaces and is well designed and put together. I only wish that the collection cup was easier to take off then the friction fit rubber seal. My sump space for the skimmer is very tight and it takes abit of muscle to twist off the collection cup and put it back on. Thanks to Aqua-Digital for making this skimmer available to me for a reasonable price. |

Thanks for the great review, the BM still remains probably the best skimmer in its $$ dollar and cents class.
We will continue to offer 100% independant reviews to CanReefers, next up being Skimz ;) |
