water storage question

Hi everyone, do you think it is okay to store RO water on a big container already mixed with salt for few weeks??

thanks,
teddy

depends on the brand of salt you are using.

some can stay mixed for months, others weeks. Check the instructions on your salt. Also - your holding container should be non-transparent so algae and what not does not grow in there. Throw in a cheapo ebay powerhead to keep the water moving and i think you should be fine for at least a month.

cheers

Normally I try to leave my IO mixing (power head and heater) for a week before a change but has sat way longer.

Figure why should it go bad, it just there like in my tank but doesn't have a fish cr*pping in it.

I am using a Brute container, with powerhead and lid placed on the basement. Doesn't really say on the salt bucket, i am using Instant Ocean..

Shouldn't be a problem, just keep it moving like you are and it should be fine :)

Do not use Brute trash cans. They can contain toxic plasticizers.

Here are some more details:

I believe Brute containers are food safe..
This is what i found out..

Only you know which unit you have.
I'm just putting it out there that just any old plastic container may not be safe. We keep sensitive invertebrates in our tanks and adding invisible toxins may result in unexplained deaths.
No one wants that.
