Clam Lighting Req?
Hey everyone I got a clam and its been alive for almost a week with no signs of stress. I must be doing something right. I was thinking about getting him a little buddy but before I did I was wondering what the light requirements for clams are.
Right now I have the Nano cube HQI, but I was thinking of upgrading my tank to a redsea 250 in a year or so. Would that still have enough lighting? I rather sell 1 clam down the road rather than 2. :) |
what type of clam is he Sean,
Squamosa VHO, MH's T-5 Crocea MH Lighting, and T-5 unless its high up there Maxima MH Lighting and T-5's unless its high up there... Derasa VHO, T-5 MH |
Not too sure what type it is, I think its a Crocea. I got it at Red Coral Calgary if anyone knows which type they had/have. :)

Are the flutes on the outside on the shell they look like ribs, are they pretty smooth, do they stick out alot, semi.
|
Photo? Its probably a crocea.
If its under HQI now, its probably fine, and as you said it seems happy. I don't know what the Red Sea 250s come with for lighting. I find clams thrive under MH, do quite well under T5s, but find the colour spectrum plays a larger role, and I've seen some promising data for LEDs. |
the clams at RC are croceas......12 clams here...all under T5.....yours should be fine.....a more relevant question is "how "mature" is your tank?"

It's about 8 months old now
