Powerhead

Hey Ben,

Most powerheads come with little guards that attach to the intakes to help prevent these little accidents.

For example, I use Maxijet powerheads, and they all have the little intake guards that they come with on them.

If yours dont have little guards, they should at least have a sponge prefilter to prevent this, but you have to clean the sponge filters once a week or so to help prevent waste buildup which will increase your nitrates.

Hi,

What kind of a powerhead are you using ? Some brands are worse than others for being a fish blender.

Hi, I had a little Cromis and it got caught in my powerhead. I was wondering what I can do so that later on no other fish get sucked into it. Thanks a lot

Ben's my buddy so I will just say for him. He's using a Maxijet 1200 with I belive a guard.

Ben, maybe the fish was dead and just got stuck to it eventually.

Hi,

Which guard are you using ? There are several guards available for the Maxijet.

hey, the guard I have on it is in on the very end of a long pipe. The fish was on it breathing so I took him off and half an hour later he was stuck again just this time not alive. Jack maybe you could explain it better. thanks a lot

Hey Ben,

1) My guess is that when using the smaller guard it creates more velocity and suction where the water enters the powerhead. Because you have the same flow, whether using the smaller or the larger guard, the smaller of the two creates more velocity and strenght to the "water pull" because of restriction.

3) It could of happened at night when the fish was sleeping, mine sleep near the top and around powerheads.

2) The chromis just died and was stuck there and wasn't just sucked in as the fish went passing by.

I will just trade you two hagen 301's for your Maxijet when you come out next sunday ben, talk to you later. Bye
