yep they are good for VERY VERY shallow tank or fish-only. not bright enough for corals comparing to the wide range of reef-ready lighting out there.

there are not enough blue leds, and the rocker switch allows you to switch from white and blue, to blue only, and off. not much timer control

These are only fish only lights and will not grow corals. I emailed the company and that was the response I got from them. Also I know that one LFS pulled them off there shelves not to long ago because of a recall...

I really hope LED technology can take off and be more affordable but today, there are very few examples.

Marineland just released a "Reef Capable" version of the LED fixture http://reefbuilders.com/2010/08/31/e...re-marineland/

I wonder if this would be good for someone who only ran T5s and wanted to get that "shimmer" effect?

I've always thought of trying that to save electricity. I wonder if you would still see the shimmer in a 2 foot deep tank.

I am running one on my 27 Gal Seahorse tank. They aren't bright at all and a little too low on the colour spectrum for my liking. It does give a shimmer effect but like I said, very dull. I would wait for the Reef Capable, I have a feeling they're only going to be OK for softies and zoas etc. but they should be brighter and a little bluer.
