Crocea Clam being attached by Hermit crabs

I assume this is a sign of the Clam dieing, I'm very disappointed because this clam is only about two week in my tank. it is 4" under 2x250 WH and 220 VHO.
To this point the clam has reacted normally

The crabs are being relentless. Most of the Clams Mantel is sucked inside but bits are being pulled and eaten by the crabs. I have three other Maxima clams with in inches of this one and the crabs aren't even touching them. Any help would be great.

Take the bottom of a pop bottle cut some slits in the sides and put over top of the clam, it should let enought light in and protect from most predators.
