I thought this was a red buble tip but he doesnt have bubble tips

I have a RBTA also and it never bubbles up anymore either. I've heard the dont bubble up if they have fish hosting in them but im not 100% about that

It also depends on the flow. My guess is that this is in an area of higher flow and therefore the bubble tips would cause too much drag on the tips.

well most of my tank seems to be high flow
so it is a RBTA?

Yeah, BTA.

It's not really well understood why they lose bubble tips in tanks. Generally they come and go, sometimes a change in flow or lighting or after a split the bubbles can come back but usually not forever.
