Waves are even current everywhere in the tank compared to power heads shooting currents at aimed locations.

Wave makers look much more realistic with the sway slowly back and forth, as compared to the fast current waving of the power head turbulence method.

A wave maker moves all the water more evenly, instead of having to have power heads positioned everywhere in your tank to try and get current to be evenly distributed.
