diy skimmer help
i have an 8" diameter acrylic tube 30" long would like to build a skimmer.
i have a couple of power heads. any good plans that anyone tried |
I've built probably close to 40 skimmers now but this was years ago. My tip is to keep it simple. Cap off the bottom and pipe it in such a way that bubbles aren't going to exit the skimmer. To keep it cheap use a wedge pipe, or swivel your fittings to adjust the water height. Play around with making your own venturi if your pwwrheads aren't powerful. Play around with making it a mesh wheel impeller and recirculate the air to increase efficiency. I personally like the Beckett skimmer but then your pump price increases. I also like the spray injection skimmer but all of this is pretty old technology. Or just try copying the bubble king design as they seem to be super efficient. Hope this helps.

i have tried this.
cap the bottom of the tube have another 4" diameter placed on the inside. water goes in to from the tank to the inner tube injecting 600gl/hr with lots of air bubbles. at the near bottom is the outtake a 2" bull valve. now the problem is that i am still getting lots of micro bubbles into the tank.i am at a loss. |
