Sump Flow

This should open up a big can of worms. But here goes. 75 Gal tank with 30 gal sump/refugium @ 5' of head. What size/type of pump/GPH would you go with and why. I plan on having a line off the overflow to feed the refugium portion, so I will be able to control the water flow into it.

Cheers,

Al

What type and size of overflow?

Sorry,
It's an 1 1/2" Duso overlow.

Well, I'm partial to the MAG line of pumps, and your's can easily handle the MAG 12. This will give you a decent flow from your return line and good turn over in the sump.
What type of livestock will you have? Also, your choice of skimmer can play a role in deciding how much flow to use.

Probably about 5 small fish for the first 8 months to year then start in with corals. Skimmer will most likey be a Euro reef 6" or Exalibur.

Does your 5' head include elbows 45's or reductions? I read a site that claimed for every bend curve or reduction, add 1 foot per. I'm running a 55 with 10 gallon sump my head is aroun 11' head. I use a mag12 with a in line ball valve for adjustment. Hope this makes sense and helps.

Mag pumps are awesome. I'd reccomend a Mag 12.
