Balsa Wood

Does anyone know where I can get Balsa wood to create air stones? Looking for something in Van or Fraser Valley.

Thank you

You actually want basswood. It's heavier, more durable and and longer lasting. Model shops or specialty wood shops for wood turners and fine furniture makers.

This is the ideal DIY plan. http://www.hawkfish.org/snailman/kwairstone.htm

mr.wilson is right. You want basswood not balsa.
The last time I was in a Windsor Plywood they had lots of it.

When buying the basswood, be sure to inspect the grain because occasionally I find some very "open" grained pieces that don't work as the bubbles produced are too large. (I found out the hard way)
I make my stones 2"X2"X7" with a 13/16" diameter bore.

There is a huge Hobby store across Lougheed on Brighten, (up from JL's), call them. Roy's hardwood usually has a huge selection of exotic woods.

Good luck

I believe if you cut 6 pieces from the end of a square length of wood and glue them in the form of a box, then insert the air feed you will get better results.
