Black Spiny Urchin

Is it safe to have a black spiny Urchin in a reef aquarium?

yes and no, yes he is reef safe but no per he will stab everything in your tank. But it not to the point where you shouldn't get him. One thing to remember is he will most likely eat your coral line alage (depending on type i think). Just a thought.

It's probably reef safe. No it will not stab everything, just those things that are foolish enough to bug it - like a sloppy aquarist who keeps banging his arm against its spines ;)

It may or may not eat coraline. There are more than one species of black spined urchins. I had one that never touched my coraline.

I say had because it starved in my 65 g tank. :(

I won't be keeping any more urchins until I get a much bigger tank.

Fred.

Let me more to the point, he will get things stuck into it's spines like (long xenia or anything that can tangle) get what i'm saying...arms to He won't go and try to poke your corals...if that was the case he wouldn't be reef safe
