whys it called "frogspawn"?

Hello, so while sitting on the couch watching me do maintence my wife asked me why it was called frogspawn? Pulsing Xenia makes sence, and alot of others just are short of there real names, except that. So off to google and nothing popped up. A couple of sights of actual frog spawn in ponds but it didnt really look close to the frogspawn in her eyes. Curious if anyone knows? Thanks.

just a guess, what do fresh laid frog eggs look like?

It might not look like it to your wife but i guess it looked like they were clusters of frog eggs to the one who conceived the name.

hmmm. i dunno. All the images of frog eggs on google are like a clear gel with a bunch of black dots in it. I can see if the person who found it decided to nickname it that but if later on if it was decided it didnt look like what it was called it would get nicknamed something else. I dunno, it doesnt really bother me but i need to figure something out cause everytime i say the word frogspawn it sparks the whole thing back up again.

This is why I try to use the latin names as often as I can. Frogspawn isnt even that bad. Try stylophora the 'cats paw' or caulastrea aka 'candy cane'.
