Question re: Live and/or dead rock in sump?
My tank is up for about a year now. I still have nothing but a skimmer in the sump and wondering if I should place some aregonite, live rock or some dried out old coral pieces (I have some large pieces in storage) into the sump, and if so, which compartment. As per pic, the left had side has the skimmer elevated about 3 inches off the floor and it runs well there. All I have in the right compartment is the return pump.
Thanks! |
You can use any compartment. I use all of mine. If you use live rock I would put peices in gradually over time as to not shock your system. I personally think the more rock in my sump the better. It acts as a natural filtration system.

Do you need the extra filtration (how's you nitrate etc)?
Though I've removed some LR fr the display and placed in my sump, advantage of leaving sump bare is it's then easy to siphon out any detritus that might build up. |
