Wrasse ID pretty please
I got this new wrasse. It was sold as an evasive wrasse. I googled it and nothing comes up. It looks fairly similar to a
Scarlet Pin Stripe Wrasse (Pseudocheilinus evanidus) http://www.marinelifephotography.com...s-evanidus.jpg a Pink-Streaked Wrasse (Pseudocheilinops ataenia) http://www.bluezooaquatics.com/image...ataenia_ps.jpg and a Mystery Wrasse (Pseudocheilinus ocellatus) http://egeberg.us/Miscellaneous/Aqua...Young-Male.jpg It's definitely not a mystery wrasse and while it's closer in looks to the other two types it doesn't quite look like them either. I'm thinking it's from the same family of wrasses though, a Pseudocheilinus  wrasse. Here's some pic.'s of him (they're not the best, but it was the best I can get of him so far) Any ideas as to what type he is? http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/i...h/DSC_1969.jpg http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/i...h/DSC_1954.jpg http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/i...h/DSC_1964.jpg http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/i...h/DSC_1966.jpg http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/i...h/DSC_1965.jpg |
Pseudocheilinus evanidus. There are different regional variants.

Google pic.'s of Pseudocheilinus evanidus http://www.aquaportail.com/uploads/a...s_evanidus.jpg http://www.marinelifephotography.com...evanidus-4.jpg http://www.marinelifephotography.com...evanidus-2.jpg This image of one from wetwebmedia looks more like mine http://www.wetwebmedia.com/WrassePix...vanidus_HI.JPG http://www.ratepoint.com/email_campa...ive_wrasse.jpg And this one looks close to what mine looks like http://theoceanconnection.com/images...s_evanidus.jpg It's always weird to me how the same fish can look so different depending on where it comes from |
i just know i liked it in the store.
it looks alot like the last few pics you posted but thats just my best guess |
I'm guessing Pinstriped (P. evanidus). I have Kuiter's guide to Fairy and Rainbow wrasses (it actually covers all wrasses - man there are literally 100's of wrasse species ) and the pictures of yours look pretty close to what he has pictured for this species. Here is what he has to say about it:
