Im not liking the way my corals and fish are doing. i was wondering if i brought pictures and water into the store if you could help me figure out if they are ok or what i can do to fix this situation?

You should give a description of your system here and the parameters of your water before you go to a LFS

Well amonia is 0. Nitrates is 0. Ph is 8.2. Calcium is 420ppm. Got about 480gph. Its a 15gal tank. 20lbs of ls. 15lbs of lr. Everything is fine in the tank I just don't think I'm getting the full potential out of the corals

alkalinity?
Salinity?
Magnesium?
R/O water.....yes/no
Running Carbon?
Temp?
SPS or LPS?
Water changes?
Lighting?

Alkalinity I don't have the test for. Salinity is 1.024. Magnesium I don't have the test for. Just tap water. Yes a carbon filter. Temp is at 79. I have torch, star polyps, candy cane, acropora, and a frogspawn. Water changes are at 10 percent weekly. And light is 2x 65watt power compacts.

Get the LFS do the Alkalinity and Redox if they got a meter. I think the Mg is okay. You salinity could be a tad higher. Do you have algae problems? I don't like the light but if will do for softies. Where are the frogspawn in the tank

Brightwhite 03-01-2010 08:22 PM

The frogspawn and torch are halfway to 3quarters of the way up. They are both in medium to low flow as well. Star polyps are half way to 1quarter of the way up and cany cane is right in the sand. There hasn't been any bad algea problems. There was a brown diatom bloom from overfeeding and a small green algea bloom from a window being open and direct sunlight hittin the tank.

Might be the tap water. I had a similar problem (my corals werent as healthy as i though they could be - almost no growth), until i switched to RO/Di water. Such a big difference. Everything looks a lot healthier.
