Lighting advice? Do you mount them or hang them?

I just got my 90 gallon tank with the canopy and picked
up a great light m/h 48 long at a great price, but it is so
heavy and I am unsure of how to mount it or what to do
any advice or examples is most welcome. I love the look
of the canopy and want to keep it and removed the back
off of it for cooling reasons but I still have not decided
on how to do this.btw it is heavy because the ballast are
built in.is there a way to do this where it looks good?
There is a pic of my tank under sherrys 90 gallon build
on the tank journal
thanks sherry :)

Go

In my old tank, the mh fixture was on the tank, but that was really annoying bc it added heat, and greatly limited access to the tank.

I took a 2x4, painted it white, screwed it to the ceiling and connected the hanging kit to it.

SO MUCH BETTER.

no I have a new set up.

I have the Coralife 48" Aqualite Pro, and have it sitting on my tank with no problems.

How heavy is yours? Is it MH? I am not thinking its MH, as the ballasts would NOT be in it.

Screwed some phenolic strips to the lights (for thermal break) then the strips onto my canopy.

i hung mine much easier to remove canopy

canopy is 8 inches high on front and sides and just used a 2x4 across the back so the light is a 1/2" higher than the 2x4 so the canopy slides right out the front

It is a MH with built-in ballasts. Much heavier than Coralife Aqualight Pros.
