Silicone cure time?
How long do I need to let silicone dry? This is just to install an overflow.
How quickly can I put water back in the tank? I was hoping about 18 hours would be ok. I know most people will say 24. |
I believe they say 24h for a complete cure. If you put it on really thick tho i would give it a little longer.
|
I do believe 24 hours is ok, but IMO I would always give it a few days. If you can afford to wait a couple weeks, that is what I would do.
I don't think overflows are as critical to the structure of things, but in the case of tank seams, I would always give it a couple weeks. |
My tube says 24 hours but I doubt you would have any issue with 18 hours.
|
IMO 24hrs is safe, 48hrs for complete cure.

24 - 48 hrs for useable but it takes up to 7 day for complete curing, but generaly after 48 hrs it is OK for use in saltwater. My self I fill with water after 48 hours and leave for 24hrs then drain and wipe all silicone surfaces you will more than likly have a film on it after this film is removed you can use. The film is from the curing process and if there is no film then cure is done to a depth that it is not leaching out to the surface. I do not atempt to use till it has been cured for atleast 48hrs, I have seen guys kill tanks by rushing things. Remeber the curing time also depends on how heavy it has been put on.

Ok I don't have that much time to let it cure so I will have to work something else out. Thanks.
Anyone know a good product to bond acrylic to..hmmm...not sure what it is exactly but basically just a regular type of plastic? I guess most superglues would work since its plastic to plastic? This would also just be a veneer type thing so not under any pressure or holding water. |
Weld-on 16 works great for acrylics.
|
If it smells like it aint cured yet... Just remember that.
|
Ok, any reason I would need to use weld on to attach an 1/8" acrylic veneer to a plastic overflow? I kind of thought something like superglue would do the trick since this is just a veneer. No?
How long is the cure time for weld on? |
All times are GMT. The time now is 08:20 AM. |
