Upgrade!

Ok, so, im moving up, thanks to a stellar deal on a 55g tank. (48Lx18Hx13D)

Now, I do have a situation which requires possible tank mobility in the future, so I need a way to reduce plumbing to a minimum while still wanting the volume benifit of a sump.

One way I can see this happening is the CPR C - Siphon Overflow CS50. It looks simple, looks easy.. I assume I could hook up the plumbing straight down to the sump, put some kind of gate valve half way down so as to correct the flow to match the out going pump.

Any feelings on this peice of equipment?? Or my idea?

The pump running outgoing to it should be the Sedra KSP-3500 Water pump.

The likely skimmer is going to be the Vertex IN-80 in sump skimmer.

Any feelings on this idea people.. and more so, experiance with the CPR C would be nice to hear as I want to know what I would be gettting my self into :)

I'd heard some negative reviews/rants about overflows so after doing some searching I found out about Lifereef (they call theirs a Prefilter Box). Its rated for 600gph.

It costs ~$120US, and when I got mine hooked up (45gal+29gal sump, mag9.5) it took about 5mins to get the flow rate balanced and its almost silent. There is no airline or any of that sort of thing, except the first time you set it up to get rid of the original air bubble.

I've had it running for about 6mo's now & I have no problems with it breaking suction when its running, when I do a water change or when I have a power outage.

I looked at these Prefilter Box's I liked them and they sounded like they would be a good fit if you have the extra$$$ I did get a used CPR90 cheep and a aqua lifter no problems with this setup.

i just got (yesterday) a CPR90 for my 30G tank, so thats 600GPH on my 30 gal :p dont have to worry about putting a valve on the overflow it will work regardless of your pump keeping up or not as mine rated double what my pump is

awesome.. good to hear.. at first, the most common thing I kept hearing was "you cant spell crap without CPR" but no one had real experiance.. it was all just a friend of a friends uncles mothers stepchild (Jimmy) having a problem.

Also just contemplating going sumpless for the time.. getting a good quality skimmer that can be hang-on or in-sump.. so if one day I have more time and space to do a good sump and get it all baffled up correctly and what not.

if you go sumpless you don't need an overflow, i got my CPR and once i tuned it, its really quiet and works perfect, my pump puts out about 300GPH and the overflow is about 600, but even if i stop the overflow it catches up to the pump pretty easily
