Anybody on these boards with legal knowledge/experience?

Due to two parties' negligence my 2 year old daughter is in a cast with a broken leg.

My first impression is that low damages awards in Canada make this not worth pursuing as a civil suit. However I would appreciate anybody's input who has experience in these sorts of things.
