Auto topoff float switch

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know what kind of load those 5 dollar float switches can handle? It seems like they break if you use a larger pump or heavy load equipment with them, but smaller pumps seem to work fine.

I personally would not use those floats for directly switching a pump. Use them to operate a relay. More wiring yes, BUT, safer, and will last, most likely outlast your tank. The problem is the cycles. The larger load they switch, the fewer times they can do it. Also, if you use a 12v power supply to power the relay, then there is no 110v power potential in your tank, waiting to short out.

Just use an aqualifter. Float and pump will last ya a longtime, mines a couple years old and been in a few tanks.
