NuraNori's 40gallon set-up

Hi Everyone,

I decided to do a tank build for my next set up which I'm kind of excited about. It's a ~40 gallon tank (30”x18”x18”) with about a 20 gallon sump underneath. The display tank is starfire glass on 3 sides and black acrylic on the 4th. We bought the tank off of a fellow canreefer. It came with a metal stand but it didn’t fit in the car so I decided to build a stand myself. The stand took a while, it’s already done, but here are some of the pics I took of the stand. It’s much bigger than the stand b/c I wanted enough room underneath and because I think it works with the space…and it’ll fit a much larger tank in case I want to upgrade.

Built and sanded. Used 2x4 and 2x3 pine to build the frame. Covered it with birch veneer and added maple doors and top. Bottom shelf and back doors are pine.

Holes are drilled for the overflow

Stained (puritan pine) and varnished (3-4 coats)

Finished product

Used magnets to hold the front and right side door on so they’re totally removable and have good access to sump

Ofcourse the magnets aren’t strong enough so had to raise the bottom trim a smidgen. Don’t laugh, it’s actually not very noticeable…

We checked the tank for leaks and so far so good. We still have to plumb it in though. Can’t get the last bit of fittings until Jan.4th when the store opens. And we kind of have to re-plumb the tank upstairs because I’m going to use one of the pumps currently in use. Minor detail right?

Since our other tank is an SPS tank with some LPS, I was mainly setting this tank up to move the LPS into it. So currently I’m planning on having LPS. I’d like a pair of false percula and a yellow coris wrasse. Not sure beyond that.

For hardware, I think I’ll be getting the Reef Octopus NWB-110 for my birthday coming up and I’m leaning towards the 30” AquaticLife T5HO lighting with 4 bulbs and LED moonlights. I like the built in timer and the single powercord. But it’s pricey and just not quite sure yet. I’m definitely planning on going with T5’s though.

So yeah, that’s where I am right now. Thanks for looking!
