Where to get Magnesium Chloride Hexahydrate
Hello everyone,
just wondering if anyone has found the Dead Sea Works magnesium chloride hexahydrate that is mention by Randy Holmes in his 2 part dosing recipe in Calgary Area, or maybe a substitute for this part? Has anyone try doing this? if so, maybe a post of your tank size and how much of each part you use to help some of us getting started on this. Thanks everyone. |
Easiest is just to buy from Bulk Reef Supply. They ship to Canada every Friday via UPS and there is no brokerage fees.

Univar can get it for you. I bought a 50 lb bag of the Dead Sea material from them. They have locations across Canada.

Littlesilvermax has chems
http://www.canreef.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=26590 Here is a link for quantities, i have been using randy for a couple years now and it works great http://www.advancedaquarist.com/issu...l2004/chem.htm And a helpful calc http://jdieck1.home.comcast.net/~jdieck1/chemcalc.html |
I would go with Chemmaster before BRS. He is in Canada so it will arrive sooner and he is cheaper. I am currently waiting for a BRS order to arrive and with the way UPS is performing I could be waiting a while.

I've been using Absolute Zero Melt Down de-icing salt for almost a full year now. http://envirotech.squarespace.com/me...absolute-zero/ You may be able to contact them to see if they have a distributer in your area.

calcium
so Univar sells to the public? do i just call them and order or they have a retail location?
i just found the dowflake at home hardware, they just ordered a bag for me for 24 bucks, i just need to go and see if that is in fact the one being mention by Randy. Once I get everything, it will be time to try, there will be a lot of questions then!!!! |
quick question
Suppose I didn't want to make so much at once of Randy H-F's stuff, could i take his recipe and change it by using half of everything listed? that should give me the same properties right?

I have some DSW Magflake. How much did you need?
You might want to google Dowflake+Bromine. |
