Seahorse Fry

Hard to get good photos of itty bitty fry, but here's one of three already hitching to macroalgae. One fry is in the top circle, two fry are in the bottom circle:

I was caught off guard by their birth, so I'm scrambling to hatch brine shrimp for their first meal. They were born yesterday morning

It's not as amazing as you think. Once they get breeding, it's fry every two weeks. Looks like I've got two breeding pairs, so I might be up to my eyeballs soon in fry

The biggest problem is feeding them. When very young, the need bbs. As they get older they need enrich bs, then after that they need something else and I don't know what that is yet

But, yeah, I'm very happy about these fry, but the bbs haven't hatched yet

Congrats Bev, that's wonderful news

Have you got some names picked out yet?

For help with these little guy's you may want to try contacting someone at the Vancouver Aquarium. I'm pretty sure they were the first Aquarium to breed seahorses, maybe someone there may be able to assist you with questions or concerns that you may have.

Goodluck  and keep us up-to-date

cheers, Rich

Fry have a high rate of mortality at certain periods of growth, so I don't have names for them. Heck, I can't even tell them apart, they are so small

Best support for caring for seahorses is www.seahorse.org. I'm an active member on that board and there are scads of people who have experience raising fry willing to help me
