Where do you put your grounding probe?

Another electrical question ... is it sufficient to have your grounding probe in the sump?

Or should you have a grounding probe in both your sump AND your main display tank?

I would have thought it's enough to have it in your sump ... but ... maybe not? Would appreciate hearing opinions.

Thanks!

Most locate the grounding probe in the sump. It is out of the way from sight and normally where the pumps are located. It should provide ample grounding effect there.

Where do you put your grounding probe?

I had a big problem with voltage in my tank, the main issue was that I discovered it kind of late.
A good way to answer your question is to get a hold of a voltmeter and check the voltage of the water. Test both in the sump and tank, and with and without the probe. Playing with this I eventually did the following to solve my problem :
- Put a probe in the sump, plugged to a well grounded power strip.
- Ground the lights (they were the main source of electricity in the water)
- Make sure all the power strips are plugged to grounded outlets
