Coral identification and dosing advice
Hello Canreefers. Just wanting to verify some LPS coral I have as I was told it was a blastomussa when it was purchased, but someone had later said it may be an Acan Lord. Attached here is a pic.....and on the same rock this coral is attached to is a Xenia I believe. Can someone verify if this is an Acan Lord? It does appear to be very healthy.
Secondly, the Clove Polyp is about the size of a toonie. It is what this is? I have it in the 1/3 bottom of my 150 gallon tank and with med light and flow and seems to be doing well. Most of my coral is LPS with an Aussie Acan, a nice Chalice and the aforementioned Acan Lord. I also have some softies such as a Zoanthid and some mushrooms. My SPS is a Bird's Nest and Monti - to date. So re: dosing. Not sure if I should start routinely dosing (ex: Magnesium, Calcium, Strontium) like so many reefers do. My tests all seem to be in a good range with Cal @ 420, Ph @ 8.3, Pot @ 400 and Mag @ 1350. However, alk measured at 7.5. In your opinion, are these acceptable? |
yes the levels are good just but you can always just dose Kalk to keep your levels up

Pics did not attach the first time:)

It is an acan for sure, not a lord though. Any acan fans on here for an ID?

ya its a Acan the type may be a lord but the color isnt really there for that to be one. hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Wasnt the color that tipped me off but the polyp arrangment, I have something VERY similar to the one pictured but it looks nothing like my the other lords in my tank. Perhaps its an indo acan instead of an Aussie?

How much was it ? If it was 60$ than it is most likely not aussi. If it was 250 may just be Aussi or you got ripped. To properly ID an acan you really need the skeleton. Many Acans are a miss id.

I know that one of my Acans were 150 and it was pretty small. However that being said there are some great deals out there thou.

It was on sale at the time, and cost $30...was told it was a Blasto
I do have an Aussie Acan as well and the two look very different. This Acan's colour is primarily green:smile:
