Tons of Pineapple Sponges

Just wondering if having an abundance of these things is a problem ever? Particularly all over my sump glass and refugium?

overfeeding will allow these sponges to proliferate
They are good, are taking nutrients out of the water column

I have them here and there in my DT and expect that they will grow well in my new sump. They feed on fine particles and bacteria in the water column and are generally a sign of good water quality. EDIT: Scypha spp.

Ok sweet, no worries then! Thanks guys. I dont have as many in my DT but perhaps one of my fish or inverts likes to eat them or something up there.

Some companies like ZEOvit sells specialized food just to feed sponges so that the sponges thrive and can take out excess nutrients from your tank :-) In other words, people generally want them to grow lots :-)

That's what I use to take out dissolved organics I actually take sponges like the common yellow/pink ones and grow them in my small frag tank on the gravel then I place them behind my frag D.T's rock work it replaces my skimmer because I do regular 10% weekly water changes and have a small fish load

but some sponges like the ones that grow long arm's I purposely take out I'm not sure what pineapple sponges are thou never heard/seen them
