Hello From a Newbie

I just want to introduce myself

I am in the Process of built a 90 gallon reef tank. I have had Cichlids for years but I sold all them when I bought my new house. I decided that I was going to convert the show tank to saltwater. I have bought a sump and euro reef skimmer and a light. I also got given 50 pounds of dead live rock from a guy that could not sell it so he tossed it in a bucket and let it dry out.
So Hi

Welcome to Canreef!
Please feel free to ask whatever questions you may have as there is a mountain of knowledge available from the members here. Make sure you take lots of photos of your build and if you feel like it start your own Journal thread in the Tank Journal forum to document it.

CheerS!

Hey dude! Welcome to the dark side!

No sure on your plans for the rock but since it's from another tank and already dead I would personally cure it with fresh water before putting it in the tank. The rock will have lots of dead matter and a build up of nutrients from the previous tank, using fresh water will allow you to remove all this quickly and at minimal cost. Put the rock in some kind of container with fresh water and lots of water flow, change the water daily until the rock basically doesn't smell anymore (may take a couple weeks). Then you can re-cure the rock in your tank without polluting your new system and avoid most of the algae blooms and high nitrate levels.

Cheers!

I just got sucked into the saltwater chaos a few months ago and it's certainly a lot of fun. Looks like a good project you have started!
