anyone have experience with Acanthurus tenneti/Lieutenant Tang?

This guy caught my eye on the live aquaria site. Anyone have one/has had one. Just wondering what they're like. Pics would be great too if you have any

I had a 6foot tank and looked into this species.
They are a large tang growing to 12 inches so decided against it.

Ah, I saw 8-10" on one of the sites I was reading. Guess I'll pass on him. Thanks for the info

I've read varying estimates of size as well. I got the impression that they are one of the smaller Acanthurus species. They are also one of the mildest mannered (more timid/less aggressive) Acanthurus as well.

Beautiful tang. Too bad I made the mistake of trying to QT him. Lived about 2 weeks. Don't know if I'll try another, if I do, I don't know if I'll ever try to QT fish again. What a fiasco that was.

Quite frankly the list of fish I won't try just seems to be growing, and the list of fish I can still try are ... um ... Start of list: Amphriprion ocellaris. End of list. Yay hobby!

(Sorry, there goes that inside voice again.)

I also read that they were one of the smaller Acanthurus species. I also read that they were a moderatly easy tang to maintain.

I have one on hold and will be picking it up this weekend.. I will post some pics once its acclimated to my tank.

Good decision
Here is the link to Bad Acanthurus to keep and your guy is one of them because of the size issue.

It is typical for dishonest LFS to downgrade a size of a fish and upgrade their chances of survivability. They are after all in the business of selling fish.

FWIW, the other Acanthurus species that I would call my favourite is Acanthurus nigrofuscus, the lavender tang. Everyone and everything I read calls this a plain fish (even wetwebmedia.com) but I saw them in Hawaii and I thought they were exquisite the way they glow purple and pink. Maybe in tanks they are not like this?

At any rate, they are claimed to max out at 8", also known as a peaceable fish.

Anyhow thought I'd share the suggestion if nothing else.

Although they've mislabeled it as a Ctenochaetus, marinecenter.com shows a picture of what I saw them to look like when I was snorkeling:

personality wise, an awesome tang.
we've had a few in at the shop and they are not only wonderfully personable, but beautiful as well.
