orange spot filefish success ?
I picked up a gorgeous orange spot filefish last week and I'm curious what everyone/anyones success has been with this fish ? It's eating frozen like crazy and seems to be doing well. Just curious if anyone has any tips they can share... He's a pic not of mine but off google which looks identical to the one I bought.

Wow, eating frozen--that's impressive!

I would love to get one, but I hate to part with my SPS's polyps

Did the LFS tell you that they eat coral polyps? If not you better scoop her up and take her back to the LFS for a full credit. I am surprised you can find them in LFSs for sale anymore. |
I agree, very beautiful, but if you have coral not a good thing... The only reef safe filefish is a emerald green one. I had one, but he eventually died, I think he was bullied

Very beautiful. where did you get it ?
If its not reef safe, it would be nice for my fowlr Quote:

A friend has one in their DT - they trained it to eat frozen by starting with brine shrimp, then mixing in mysis slowly, eventually making it all mysis/frozen.
Oh, and it doesn't eat polyps apparently - possibly feeding on slime, but definitely doesn't eat polyps. |
Matt Peterson (sp?) has an article on his successful breeding of that fish. It's either in the latest issue of Coral Mag or that new mag "Reef Life".
