What cause this?

This morning at 6:30am I notice that the water was pretty cloudly in the tank, nothing was added to this system. Came home from work at 4:00pm thinking the worse and found that the water is crystal clear again. Fish and coral are find. Any idea what may have cause this?

some kind of spawning event?

patpare 08-06-2009 02:34 AM

Do you have caulupra algae? The same thing happend to me 2months ago,and it turned out that my caulupra was oozing out,and then turned white, the tank water was horrible looking when it happend but clear out within 2hours.

Does anyone know why that happend???

I do have chaeto and halimeda algae in my fuge, and some of the halimeda has turn white.

patpare: The caulerpa went asexual, you then have to take it out, otherwise, all the nutrients the caulerpa took out of the water to grow, will be redeposited back into the tank, spiking your nitrates etc.
This does not happen to cheato, All lot of people will not use caulerpa for just that reason.

Yeah it was totally the halimeda, if its just a little I wouldn't worry too much about it but if you have a lot then it can cause problems. Do you light your fuge 24/7? That usually stops the macro from spawning.

I guess I should read up on them, the halimeda just started to grow like mad, on the live rock in my main display tank, so pull them out and threw them in the fuge which the light is on for 12 hours per day. But this is the first time the tank became cloudly?
