Tunze 9005 skimmer how much height needed for cup?

I'm fed up with the pump on my Aqua C Urchin, and never did like the spray sound. My pump keeps quitting, Its a Odessea pump. Theres never anything wrong, just have to take apart, then its fine. BUT, I have a small sump, and real limeted space. So, instead of buying a $100+ Ehiem for it, maybe it would be better to get a new one.
I think the Tunze would fit nicely in my sump, but not sure how much height it needs to remove the cup.

Thx in advance

i have the tunze 9005 in my tank<no sump>the unit itself is roughly 15 inches high and you need 7inches above it to get the cup out.i also found bye running my tunze on a timer and letting it turn off for about 1 hour it seems to work better

this might be a dumb question, but does the whole skimmer go in your tank or hang on the back? I can't seem to find any pics of one in a tank. I have a sea clone and it seems to work ok, but it sounds like a '76 mazda 808 (my first car)

the whole unit goes into tank <no worries about it leaking:biggrin:>.i also when and bought the tunze magnet holder to put it on tank .it works alot better then the hanging unit that the 9005 comes with

Dan, lots of measures and pics in my Tunze 9010 thread in the equipment forum. I would have to check though to see how much in size the 9005 differs.
