new sand

I was thinking of making my sandbed deeper,should I just put the new sand on top of the old,or try to mix it together?

Just dump er in....after you rinse it that is. I routinely dump a few pounds of top up sand in the tank.....tank doesnt look to good for a while but no worries.

Dont do it!
DSB is a time bomb...if you do whant one you should go with RDBS insted.
