Little Abalone

Does anyone know anything about abalone reproduction? I just found a tiny abalone in my tank. My large abalone was killed by Bob(my BTA) 2 months ago. I never had more than one abalone snail. Just curious on how this is possible:wink:

Maybe it was a hitcher that you've never seen till now? Maybe it came in on a coral or snail as itty bitty? Would be awesome if the abalone had laid fertile eggs in your tank though....

What you are seeing is probably a Stomatella snail, which looks very much like a miniature abalone, and a frequent hitchhiker in on live rock (a totally beneficial hitchhiker, and they will reproduce in our tanks. They are, however, easy pickings for a lot of other things, like fish and in particular shrimp and/or crabs).
