Brown Algae - ID Please
Have had one big patch of orange leathery algae that has been growing. It is now starting to show up in small spots around the tank. Fuzzy hairs grow off that the snails like to chow on. Here is a couple pics and wondering about suggestions for removal as I will be removing live rock from old tank and putting into new tank (scrub off with brush method, etc). Thanks for any help.

looks like brown wafer algae to me. Good luck

Looks like brown algae to me, my tangs took quick care of the little bit I had (Naso really liked it).
|
Naso is the brown wafernator....one of the only fish readily available that eats the wafer itself....How big is your tank? Any other tangs?
|
Thanks for the replies.... I would love to get a Naso Tang. I currently have a 55g and will be moving to a 60g with a 30g sump (sometime this week - when I have a spare day). But from what I have red in the past I don't think that will be big enough for a Naso Tang :(. (Please correct me if I am wrong about the tangs).
Thanks Please note light bioload right now... Cleaner shrimp, Blue velvet damsel, and Koran Angel.... but will be increasing after new tank is set up and stable. No tangs in my aquarium right now. |
You're right, the 60 won't be big enough for a Naso. It's also not big enough for the Koran Angel. That algae sucks. I used to have it in my tank, but when I concentrated on lowering nutrients I was able to get rid of it. And that's even without running a skimmer.
